During the restoration, the tower was closed to the public from 1989 until 2001. After restoration, it is thought that the restoration will keep the Leaning Tower of Pisa stable for the next 300 years. It was then open to public again in the year 2001. Pisa Tower weighs approximately 14,500 tons. That’s a lot of weight for a leaning building to have to support when it has been leaning since it was built.
In 2008 engineers stated that the Pisa Tower had stopped moving. This is the first time in the history that it has not been slowly leaning further to one side. In this Tower Galileo Galilei performed the experiments to study the equations for a falling body from the top of the Tower.
