Places to Visit in Panaji – Panaji is the capital of Goa which is also known as Panjim. Unlike all other state capital, Panaji is quite peaceful and beautiful. It is located on the side of Mandovi river where you can see the boats cruising.

1. Church of the Immaculate Conception –
It is one of the oldest church in Goa which is situated on the heart of town. It is also known as the White Church. Very famous for its architecture and design with a beautiful interior which attracts people. It is very much walkable from the riverfront. Originally it was built in 1541 which is reconcentrated again in 1619. This church is dedicated to the Lady Mary Immaculate in back altar which has two partitions altars in the left side Jesus Crucified and the right one to Our Lady Of Rosary. 2. Reis Magos Fort, Panaji –
It is one of the most visited places near Panaji. The Reis Magos Fort was built in 1551 by Sultan Adil Shah. The Fort is also famous for its Church ‘Reis Magos’ which attract the tourist a lot. Reis Magos Fort is a religious symbol of Magi Kings which is widely known as ‘three wise men’, states that they went to Bethlehem after the shining star to bestow their gifts towards the Infant Jesus.
3. State Museum, Panaji –
Goa State Museum, also known as the State Archaeology Museum, Panaji. It is established in 1977 which has various department including Ancient History and Archaeology, Art and Craft, and Geology. Today it has more than 8000 artefacts to display including stone sculptures, wooden objects, carvings, bronzes, paintings, manuscripts, rare coins, and anthropological objects. It is situated at EDC Complex in Patto, Panaji which is divided into fourteen galleries. So it is one of the best places to visit in Panaji.
4. Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Panaji –
Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary spread around 440 acres which is located at a distance of 5 km from Panaji near the Mandovi River. The sanctuary houses around 400 species of birds including both local and migratory. The sanctuary houses a wide variety of resident birds including eagles, kites, kingfishers, egrets, parrots, cormorants and herons.
5. Basilica of Bom Jesus, Panaji –
It is a UNESCO certified World Heritage Site which is also known as Basilica of Good Jesus. The place also has a Church which is one of the oldest Church in Goa. The chassis of St. Francis Xavier is kept in a beautifully decorated casket here. Started in 1594, the construction of the church was completed in the month of May, in 1605. 6. Fort Aguada, Panaji –
Fort Aguada is one of the major attraction near Panaji which was constructed by Portuguese in 1612. This old Portuguese fort stands on the beach south of Candolim, at the shore of the Mandovi River. It is also famous for the lighthouse which is very near to this place. This fort is divided into two segments: the upper part acted as fort and watering station, while the lower part served as a safe berth for Portuguese ships. It built an aim to prevent Goa from the attacks of the conquerors which is covered by huge walls.
